"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." So does a journal with a thousand entries...or a blog with a thousand posts.
This blog will serve as the electronic journal of my students for the school year 2011-2012. I expect to read their thoughts here as they express themselves the best way they can. It will not be like facebook, because in fb, I can see only short exchanges, which are often not reflective of the lessons they have learned in school. I am looking forward to reading opinions, comments, suggestions, and even queries which are related to the topics discussed in our classroom.
So why do we need to use this medium when we see each other everyday in class, and everyone can just air their opinions and ask their questions? Based on experience, some students transform into different personalities when they get behind their computers. They become more courageous and type words they will never think of uttering inside the classroom. And for some, it also takes quite a while for an idea to incubate before it can be shared.
I am sure I will also be learning a lot here. A teacher should be a life-long learner, otherwise, she might run out of things to teach.
So what are we waiting for? Let the journey begin...
